Halfway - 0-16.5 gauge Terminus station, PArt of the Shropshire Minerals Light Railway
Located on the fictional network that is the Shropshire Minerals Light Railways, Halfway sits at the end of one the Branch lines. Only about a mile from the village at Brant Abbey. It acquired the unfortunate local of halfway due to it only ever making it halfway to its destination at the end of the valley, before the original company ran short of funds, having spent them on a rather extravagant station, loco shed & goods facility. At what was expected to be the mid point of the line. Fortunately in later years a local farm started a monthly live stock auction and market which grew to be quite popular. Giving a good source of income for the railway.
The busiest times for the line are the monthly market days when cattle trains arrive delivering livestock to the local market, along with special passenger services running from all over the network. The railway also provides the service of delivering the cattle to the purchasers
The layout is built on two laser cut baseboards, each measuring 1200mm x 600mm giving a total length of 2400mm x 600mm. This was started at the previous club room just before we moved to our new premises, progress got as far as starting with track laying. The plan was to continue track laying, including the building of a diamond crossover before wiring, test & scenic work to begin once we had set up the new club room. Unfortunately this happened in early 2020 just before we got shut down so progress was halted until recently when the last part of track laying, the diamond cross over was completed.
We are now ready to begin wiring & plan out the scenery. The proposal is to scratch build as much as possible. Designs are being planned for a loco shed/ Stabling point, a carriage shed, goods shed & station building.
